ERG has commissioned the first 50MW at its Sandy Knowe wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway in the south of Scotland.
The remaining 36MW will enter service at the site during the first quarter of 2023, and earlier than the timeline set out in ERG’s 2022-2026 business plan.
The wind farm, developed and built internally, will have a total installed capacity of 86.4MW and an overall annual production of over 250GWh at full capacity, equivalent to the needs of about 55,000 households, and avoiding the emission of 106,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.
CEO of ERG Paolo Merli commented: “The group is continuing its path of organic growth in the UK, one of the priority markets for the development objectives in our renewable energy portfolio.
“The start-up of the first batch of the Sandy Knowe wind farm adds to the 70.3MW produced by the Craiggore and Evishagaran wind farms in Northern Ireland, which have been in operation since the beginning of 2022, thus bringing today the installed capacity in the UK to over 120MW.”
