The European Investment Bank is lending Windpark Pretul €36.7m to finance the construction of a 42MW wind farm in Styria in southern Austria.
The loan amounts to 75% of the total cost of the project – €49m. The borrower is a special purpose vehicle set up and fully owned by Österreichische Bundesforste, which manages Austria’s natural resources.
The wind farm will consist of 14 3MW turbines and a 7km line connecting them to an existing electricity substation.
Turbines installation is due to be completed in October, with hand-over of the wind farm expected to take place in February 2017.
The project will be located at the top of a mountain ridge near “Pretulalpe” about 1600 metres above sea level.
It is the first direct EIB loan to support electricity generation from wind in Austria.
