A crane operator has been killed during construction of Avangrid Renewables’ 30MW Deerfield wind farm in southern Vermont.
A 59-year-old man was electrocuted when the crane he was driving struck a high tension power line on 18 April, said Vermont state police.
An investigation is underway and an autopsy will be performed.
Avangrid broke ground on the Deerfield wind farm in December. Civil contractor Reed and Reed is building the 15-turbine project.
The developer is erecting Gamesa 2MW turbines, a mix of G97 and G87 machines, across 80 acres in the Green Mountain National Forest.
Construction is slated to wrap up by the end of 2017.
Vermont utility Green Mountain has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement for the output.
