A 40MW wind farm, built by VSB Group in Finland’s North Ostrobothnia region, has started commercial operation.
The Juurakko wind farm has seven wind turbines and was developed and built by VSB Uusiutuva Energia Suomi, the Finnish subsidiary of the developer.
The park is owned by Helen and the Ålandsbanken Wind Power Special Investment Fund.
Construction of the 40MW wind farm started in the spring of 2021, using turbine technology from manufacturer Nordex, which together with VSB installed the N163/5.X model for the first time in Finland.
In order to deliver consistently strong yields even in Nordic weather conditions, the model is equipped with an anti-icing system as a cold-climate variant.
“This was the VSB Group’s first project in Finland. Thanks to the smooth and transparent cooperation with decision makers from the town of Kalajoki, landowners, contractors and Nordex, as well as Helen and Ålandsbanken, the project was successfully completed on time,” said Jean-Marc Bazenet, Chief International Officer of VSB Group.
“We are proud to contribute to Finland’s goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2035 and are committed to driving the energy transition in the country with further wind projects,” Bazenet added.
In addition to the Juurakko wind farm, Helen, together with the Ålandsbanken Wind Power Special Investment Fund, acquired the Karahka wind farm, with a capacity of approximately 150MW, from the VSB Group in July 2022.
Karakha is under construction, with commissioning planned for 2024.
