US developer NextEra Energy Resources is investigating after a turbine went up in flames this week in northwestern Iowa.
“We experienced a fire in one of our 2.5MW Clipper machines at our Endeavor wind energy center in Osceola County,” spokesperson Bryan Garner told reNEWS.
The turbine went offline at about 4:30am on June 5 and the local fire department responded to the fire, said Garner.
“The area is secure,” he added. There were no injuries.
The 100MW wind farm started commercial operation in 2008.
This is the second turbine accident NextEra has had in a week. The developer is also investigating a blade break on a GE 1.7MW XLE turbine at a project in Oklahoma.
