The first turbine has been installed at Green Genius’ wind project in Lithuania.
A remaining Nordex turbines are now on route to the site in Jurbarkas and are expected to reach their destination before the end of this month.
The first stage of Jurbarkas wind park will have a capacity of 63MW, comprising 11 turbines, and will start operation in 2025.
Over 110 trucks and heavy vehicles have been deployed to deliver the machines and other components for the project.
Each of the turbines will comprise 13 main parts each and will have a height of 240 metres once installed.
The second stage of another 17MW will soon enter construction.
The whole Jurbarkas wind park of 80MW will represent about 8% of Lithuania’s current wind portfolio, said Green Genius.
It will supply green electricity to Lithuanian businesses.
Green Genius is investing over €100m in the construction of the wind park in Jurbarkas.
“We’ve been working on Jurbarkas project with great care and consideration, composing one of the most significant onshore wind parks in Lithuania,” said head of Green Genius’ wind and green hydrogen business Darius Bieksa.
“It will contribute notably to the sustainability in the region, as wind energy is a key component to ensure a stable and efficient supply of green energy.”
The 11 turbines required over 80km of electricity cables that have been laid down on the construction site.
For the foundation, 880 cubic metres of concrete was used.
