RES is collaborating with French turbine manufacture Poma Leitwind on the repowering of the Souleilla-Corbieres wind farm in France, which the duo said is the first deal in the country for locally-made multi-MW hardware.
The project has been operational since 2001 and currently comprises 16 Bonus 1.3MW turbines.
Poma Leitwind will supply 10 2.4MW direct drive machines, which will be installed in 2021, to replace the existing units.
Souleilla-Corbieres was successful in securing capacity in France’s second onshore wind tender earlier this year.
RES managing director of France Matthieu Guerard said: “This innovative project will once again highlight RES’ capacity to develop wind and solar projects with energy prices amongst the most competitive in the market.”
RES wind project manager Matthieu Tusch said: “It also gives us great satisfaction, through this pioneering project, to participate in Poma Leitwind’s industrial ambition to manufacture wind turbines in France.
“Poma has been able to offer us the best solution for our first repowering project, proposing a wind turbine perfectly adapted to this site. “
