GE Renewable Energy has completed the installation and commissioning of turbines totalling 85MW of wind capacity in Turkey.
The 53MW Kirazli and 32MW Meryem wind farms are part of a bigger order placed one year ago by a local joint venture between Turkerler and RT Enerji, for 158MW for five wind farms in total.
The five wind farms, which are Sile, Pamukova and Mahmut Sevket, as well as Kirazli and Meryem, will feature 49 of GE’s 3MW onshore wind turbines.
GE produced the blades for the turbines at its LM Wind Power factory’s in Bergama, Izmir, in Turkey.
GE said the Kirazli wind farm installation presented “significant technical challenges” as the site is located at the top of a hill and at the end of a narrow, winding 20 km rural road crossing farms and villages.
All five wind farms benefit from a tariff guarantee (plus local content incentive).
GE Renewable Energy onshore wind MENAT chief executive Manar Al-Moneef said: “With more than 1.2GW installed in Turkey, we are thrilled to be bringing new wind energy projects to life and additional renewable energy to Turkey.”
Al-Moneef added: “2020 is a very important year for the Turkish wind industry given the Feed-In-Tariff in place and we are proud to take part of this momentum, together with Turkerler and RT Enerji.”
