GE has reached a milestone of 50GW of installed onshore wind capacity around the world after its recent acquisition of Alstom’s renewable energy unit.
More than 30,000 GE wind turbines now operate in more than 35 countries, the US company said. It has at least a gigawatt installed in nations including Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Spain and the US.
“Renewable energy has become a mainstream source of power generation,” said GE Renewable Energy’s chief executive Jerome Pecresse. “The industry is poised for continued global growth, and at GE, we are excited to be reaching this milestone and look forward to adding our next 50 gigawatts even faster.”
While most of GE’s installations are in the US, its new Alstom unit has expanded its presence in Europe and Brazil.
