GE Renewable Energy and developer Invenergy have launched investigations into the collapse of a turbine at the latter’s 200MW Upstream wind farm (pictured) in the US state of Nebraska.
The 2.5-116 unit collapsed on 5 July, according to the manufacturer. Local reports suggested there was bad weather in the area at the time of the collapse.
A GE team was deployed to site and is working with Invenergy to determine the root cause, said a GE spokesman.
“We stand by the quality and reliability of our turbines, and we are taking immediate action with our customer to resolve this issue,” he added.
“GE Renewable Energy’s best-selling 2 MW product platform will have a total installed capacity of more than 15 GW by the end of 2019 and operates at an industry-leading average of 98%-plus availability.”
A spokeswoman for Invenergy said the developer is also investigating and the the wind farm remains operational.
No one was injured in the incident, she added.
Construction of Upstream, located in Antelope County, was completed in January this year.
