GE is to supply turbines with a combined capacity of 102MW to the Kipeto wind farm in Kenya.
The project, located in Kajiado south of Nairobi, will feature 60 GE 1.7-103 machines and is expected to come online in 2020.
GE will also provide operations and maintenance for Kipeto.
Financial close on the wind farm was reached on 17 December, with Actis and local company Craftskills Wind Energy International equity investors.
Debt finance is also being provided by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the US government’s development finance institution.
GE Energy Financial Services provided advisory services.
GE onshore wind regional director for Europe and sub-Saharan Africa Peter Wells said: “GE is incredibly proud to be a part of this exciting endeavour.
“The Kipeto project is an important step forward in providing affordable, reliable clean energy to the region, and meeting Kenya’s renewable energy goals.
“We look forward to working with our partners on the journey for years to come.”
Electricity from Kipeto will be supplied to Kenya Power and Lighting under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
