GE Renewable Energy is investigating a turbine blade failure which occurred at the Burgerwind Gronau Epe wind farm in Germany on 2 January.
The US manufacturer confirmed the incident to reNEWS and said there were no injuries.
A spokesman said: “In partnership with our customer and local authorities, we have secured the site and are working to determine the root cause of this event.”
According to a press report in Westfalische Nachrichten the other GE turbine at the wind farm, also measuring a total hub height of 161 metres and rotor diameter of 158 metres, was taken off the grid on 2 January.
The news site reported the turbine blade had buckled and fell to the ground in the immediate vicinity of the tower, while smaller parts of the blade landed a further distance in the field.
