GE Renewable Energy has completed over 2500 repowering upgrades totalling 4GWs in the US since 2017 and will repower an additional 3GW by the end of 2020.
The completed work covers 36 wind farms, while the upcoming jobs are for 11 customers at more 25 projects.
GE said its customers include NextEra, Eon and MidAmerican Energy, among others.
It added, that on average, the upgrades have resulted in about a 20% increase in annual energy production and a 1.5% availability improvement.
GE Renewable Energy Americas onshore wind chief executive Vikas Anand said: “Repowering existing wind turbine technology is a complex endeavour, requiring the ability to blend new technology and equipment with ageing machines.
“GE has the engineering, design and financing expertise to help our customers do that in a way that enables them to generate the maximum amount of clean, renewable energy from each wind turbine in existence in the most economic manner possible.”
The milestone was announced at the AWEA Windpower 2019 event in Houston, which runs from 20 to 23 May.
