Germany installed 3567MW of onshore wind capacity in 2023, comprising 745 turbines, according to data compiled for BWE and VDMA Power Systems.
The 3.6GW of capacity added in 2023, exceeds forecasts of those two associations and is more than the 2022 total of 2.4GW.
Deutsche WindGuard compiled the data on behalf the two associations.
Today, Germany has 61GW of installed onshore wind capacity.
President of the German Wind Energy Association BWE Barbel Heidebroek said: “Last year, we saw record figures in terms of new permits as well as in terms of awards.
“The federal and state governments must now pull together in order to consolidate these positive developments.
“The overall successful ramp-up of renewable energies must be more than just a response to external crises.
“What is needed is a legal framework that creates clarity and predictability in the long term, even beyond this legislative period.
“Then the wind energy industry will be able to develop its full potential as a driving economic sector, secure jobs in Germany and contribute to a secure and clean energy supply.”
The associations are calling for the swift implementation of further measures already announced to accelerate the expansion of wind energy.
Heidebroek added: “In November 2023, the federal and state governments agreed on a comprehensive package of measures as part of the Pact for Acceleration.
“These decisions must now be enacted into law as soon as possible, preferably in the first quarter of this year.”
For the year 2024, the associations forecast 4GW of onshore wind to be installed in Germany.
