Goldwind Australia has installed the first of 149 turbines at the 530MW Stockyard Hill wind farm in Victoria.
The remaining 148 3S machines will be installed throughout 2019 and the wind farm is scheduled for completion next year.
Construction of Stockyard Hill started in June 2018 and approximately 250 staff are currently on site, with up to 300 expected during peak construction.
Six of the up to 25 permanent maintenance staff for the project have also already been employed, Goldwind said.
Goldwind project director for Stockyard Hill Andrew Monahan said: “Our civil and electrical contractors, logistics contractors, installation contractor and the global Goldwind team have worked together in the detailed planning stages for this milestone for around six months.
“It’s been a substantial team effort to ensure the first installation was carried out safely and smoothly.
“All 149 of the Goldwind wind turbines installed will be up to 180 metres in height at the blade tip.
“The tower for each turbine is made up of five sections and will be 110 metres in height. The three blades positioned at the top of the tower are 68.5 metres long.”
