UK utility SSE has agreed to sell a further 5% stake in the 523MW Clyde wind complex to Greencoat UK Wind and GLIL Infrastructure for £67.8m.
The new agreement brings Greencoat and GLIL’s joint share in the project up to 35%. They also have an option next year to buy a further 14.9% for £202.2m.
In March 2016, SSE released a 49.9% share in the existing 350MW operational wind farm to the pair, with an understanding that that would be diluted to 30% when the 173MW Clyde 2 extension became operational.
SSE managing director wholesale Martin Pibworth said: “Both the original Clyde wind farm and the recent extension are complex projects, requiring major investment and a great deal of effort to deliver such efficient assets that make a huge contribution to supplying electricity and reducing carbon emissions across the GB market.
“The sale of a further stake in Clyde to UKW and GLIL is a natural step in our partnership with them and our commitment to recycle capital where we can see value for SSE.”
The Clyde wind complex, in South Lanarkshire, features 206 Siemens turbines with individual capacity of 2.3MW and 3.2MW.
