Iberdrola is to build its next wind farm in Spain with the most powerful onshore wind turbine after awarding Siemens Gamesa the supply contract.
Siemens Gamesa will provide 14 of its SG 4.5-145 wind turbines for the 63MW Herrera Complex.
Each has a rated capacity of 4.5MW, a blade length of 71 metres and a 145-metre diameter.
The Herrera Complex, which will be built in Burgos province, is made up of three wind farms, La Huesa, Orbaneja and Valdesantos.
The project will be operational this year.
Iberdrola will also build the 10MW Fuenteblanca wind farm, which will consist of three SG 3.4-132 wind turbines, to complete a 73MW wind farm complex.
The Herrera wind complex and Fuenteblanca will contribute to Ibredrola’s goal in Spain to install 3GW of new wind and solar capacity by 2022.
By 2030, developer aims to install 10GW of renewables capacity, resulting in the employment of 20,000 people.
In Castilla y Leon Iberdrola operates over 5100MW, has more than 400MW of wind and solar projects in in the pipeline and grid access for another 500MW.
