Iberdrola has fleshed out plans for a 97MW wind project in a southern Vermont forest.
A preliminary layout envisions 28 3.45MW turbines in the 5,000-acre Stiles Brook Forest, which is owned and worked by New Hampshire-based Meadowsend Timberlands.
Three meteorological masts have been collecting data since April 2013 and state officials recently approved a two-year extension to December 2017. Iberdrola told regulators “it needs to gather additional wind data in order to further characterize the wind regime in the area, and to assist in the identification of wind turbine models appropriate for the site.”
Iberdrola has started environmental studies at the Windham County site in preparation for a certificate of public good application. If the project is approved the proponent aims to start construction in 2019.
The Stiles Brook wind farm would pay about $1m annually in property tax revenues to the towns of Grafton and Windham and $700,000 a year to the state education fund, said the Spanish developer.
