German developer Innogy is setting up its first office in Ireland to develop onshore wind projects in the country.
Cathal Hennessey has been appointed managing director for Innogy Renewable Energy Ireland to head up the office, which was first revealed in the latest issue of the subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS.
Hennessey, who has previously worked for Coillte and Lightsource, said: “The UK has always been a very important part of Innogy’s strategic plans and Ireland is a natural progression.
“Innogy hopes to play a key role in assisting Ireland deliver on the objectives set out in its energy white paper of decarbonising the electricity system over the coming decades.”
The company said its plans are to grow its onshore wind business to include greenfield developments through to the acquisition of operational wind farms.
Separately, the developer said the first foundation inserts had arrived to the site of its 57.4MW Brechfa Forest West wind farm in southern Wales.
