Innogy has generated first power from its Contract for Difference-backed Mynydd y Gwair onshore wind farm near Swansea in south Wales.
The 32.8MW wind farm located between Ammanford and Clydach consists of 16 Senvion MM92 turbines with 127-metre tip heights.
The first turbine was successfully installed in October 2018 and construction is expected to be complete by early summer.
Innogy project manager Tim James said: “Despite challenging conditions, we now have 10 turbines completed at Mynydd y Gwair and we achieved first generation today, which is testament to the team’s hard work.”
Enabling works for the wind farm started by contractor Dawnus in February 2017 with civils engineer kicking Farrans kicking off balance-of-plant duties later that year.
Through the construction of Mynydd y Gwair, together with Clocaenog Forest and Brechfa Forest West, innogy will have invested £270m into new renewable energy infrastructure in Wales.
Combined, the projects will provide a community investment package for the neighbouring communities of £1.2m per year for 25 years.
