Invenergy Wind’s 73MW Prairie Breeze II wind farm in Nebraska has been officially opened following completion of construction.
The wind farm is located in Antelope and Boone Counties about 100 miles northwest of the city of Lincoln and work wrapped up at the tail end of last year.
“We’re pleased to begin operating the second phase of our Prairie Breeze Wind Energy Center,” said Invenergy’s Vice President Mick Baird.
“When complete, Prairie Breeze will provide more than 300MW of clean energy to our customers in Nebraska, a state with tremendous wind resources.”
Prairie Breeze II is the second phase of the project. Prairie Breeze I, a 201MW facility began operating in 2014 and Prairie Breeze III, a 36MW wind farm in Antelope County reached financial close in the final quarter of 2015 and is currently being built.
TerraForm Power will acquire around 90% of Prairie Breeze II and III in the second quarter of 2016, as part of as part of the second closing of the acquisition of wind power plants from Invenergy announced in December, once Prairie Breeze III starts commercial operations.
