Invenergy has agreed to sell a 90% stake in the 250MW Sapphire Sky wind farm in Illinois to US company WEC Energy.
WEC’s investment is expected to total $412m for the ownership interest in the project in McLean County, which will consist of 64 turbines.
Commercial operation is expected by the end of 2022.
Sapphire Sky will generate electricity that will be sold under a long-term power purchase agreement with an unnamed Fortune 100 global, high-tech company.
With this project, WEC Energy’s infrastructure segment has planned investments in eight major wind farms totalling more than 1.5GW of capacity.
WEC Energy executive chairman Gale Klappa said: “The Sapphire Sky project is the latest step forward in our comprehensive plan to accelerate the development of affordable, reliable and clean energy.
“This project will help meet the energy needs of one of the largest high-tech companies in the world and continue to grow earnings from our portfolio of renewable assets.”
