Invenergy has acquired the in-construction 70MW Campo Palomas wind farm in Uruguay.
The US developer said today it had also reached financial close on the Salto project which will feature 35 Vestas V110 2MW turbines.
Campo Palomas was bought from a Uruguayan subsidiary of Spanish conglomerate Abengoa. An unnamed Abengoa company is staying on to complete balance of plant work.
Project financing was provided by the Inter-American Investment Corporation and DNB acted as the mandated lead arranger.
Invenergy vice president of development Matthew Olive said: “We’re very pleased to close on the Campo Palomas Wind Farm as it advances and strengthens Invenergy’s commitment to Latin America.”
He added: “With power generation at approximately 90 percent renewables, Uruguay is a global leader in renewables, and this is a market that we are excited to enter.”
The project will be commissioned in February 2017 with the state-owned utility Usinas & Trasmisiones Electricas contracted to take full power from the scheme.
