Remote islands wind projects off Scotland are a step closer to reality following the latest round of meetings between Westminster, Holyrood and local leaders.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar recently met with UK Energy Minister Richard Harrington, his Scottish counterpart in what were described as “very positive” discussions.
BEIS outlined next steps including parallel consultations in autumn on Remote Islands Wind and associated community benefits.
Western Isles director of development Calum Iain Maciver said: “This was an important and positive meeting that clearly sets the agenda for the next period.”
He added there are still a range of challenges to be worked throug but the meeting with Mr Harrington has reinvigorated prospects for island renewables.
“There now appears to be a broad consensus between the UK and Scottish Governments, the three island local authorities and the developer community that progress can and will be made,” said Maciver.
