Industrial insulation products supplier Kingspan has installed an EWT turbine at its Holywell factory in North Wales.
The DW52 900kW model will help Kingspan meet its commitment to become a net-zero energy company by 2020, and manage future energy cost rises through using less power from the grid.
When the Holywell factory is at operating at full capacity, 90% of the power produced by the turbine will be consumed on-site around the clock.
In quieter work periods when the turbine is producing more power than needed, Kingspan will feed the excess into the national grid at a wholesale rate, helping to minimise potential losses.
To fund the development and construction of the wind turbine, Kingspan agreed a long-term energy supply contract with the developer Sirius Renewables Group, while EWT will service the machine.
The project was delivered during a three-day factory shutdown, with all partners working together to ensure that installation could be completed without affecting factory operations.
