Renewable NRG Systems (RNRG) and Ventus Ingenieria have installed a Wind Iris nacelle-mounted lidar at UTE’s 20MW Caracoles wind farm in Uruguay.
The company’s said the Wind Iris will monitor turbine performance and offer optimisation solutions for the wind farm.
The project, located in the Sierra de Caracoles in the Maldonado region, consists of 10 Vestas V80 2MW units and is owned by UTE, Uruguay’s national utility and electricity market regulator.
The lidara will evaluate and quantify the performance of one specific turbine and propose solutions to improve the energy production, RNRG and Ventus said.
RNRG senior technical lead for remote sensing Evan Osler said: “The installation of this first Wind Iris in Latin America demonstrates the Uruguayan market maturity in benchmarking turbine performance and maximizing AEP with cutting edge measurement technology.”
