Banks Renewables has awarded contracts totalling more than £1m to companies in the northeast of England for work on the 10MW Lambs Hill wind farm located northwest of Stockton.
Cheetham Hill Construction is the main contractor for the project, which is scheduled to be complete before the end of the year.
Banks said more than 20 subcontractors have also been appointed to work on the four-turbine scheme, with over £310,000 of contracts being awarded to firms based in the local Tees Valley area.
Contractors include waste recycling firm Scott Brothers from Billingham, B&S Scaffolding in Middlesbrough and Stockton-based Hope Construction.
Contracts worth a further £740,000 have been allocated to companies elsewhere in the northeast region.
They include Express Reinforcement and ESG, both based in Newcastle, and rainwater harvesting equipment supplier Oaklands Environmental of Washington.
Banks said a community liaison committee, including members of the community and representatives from local parish councils, Stockton Borough Council and Banks Renewables’ project team, has been set up to help keep local people informed on construction progress.
A sub-group has been established to review and agree the local organisations and good causes that will receive funding from the Lambs Hill wind farm community benefits fund.
The fund, which will be worth £10,000 annually throughout the scheme’s 25-year lifespan, will become active once Lambs Hill begins to generate electricity for the National Grid.
The Banks Group community relations manager Lewis Stokes said: “Working wherever possible with businesses based in the communities around our projects is a key element of the way we work, and we’re lucky to have a range of high-quality northeast suppliers to which we’ve been able to turn for this project.”
