Mainstream Renewable Energy has installed the first turbine at the 140MW Loeriesfontein wind farm in the Northern Cape region of South Africa.
The ZAR3.5bn project will consist of 61 Siemens turbines and is expected to start supplying electricity to the national grid by end-2017 as part of the third round of the country’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme.
Siemens Wind Power, along with sub-contractors, Fairwind and BMS, are installing the turbines.
The same teams will move onto turbine lifting at the adjacent 140MW Khobab wind farm next year, Mainstream said.
