Mexicans bank 424MW mega-farm

Zuma Energia has reached financial close on the 424MW Parque Eolico Reynosa wind farm in north-east Mexico.

Mott MacDonald was lender’s independent engineer to Zuma during financing and will now monitor construction and operations in an ongoing role.

The $600m project will consist of 123 Vestas V136-3.45MW turbines and is scheduled to be operational at the start of 2019.

Mott MacDonald’s work included reviewing the new turbine model, which has no previous operational experience. 

It also assisted with the implementation of environmental and social management plans and advised on compliance with relevant standards and regulatory requirements.

Mott MacDonald project director Carlos Riano said: “Our assessments were based on our regional and international experience in similar assignments, including other wind projects in Mexico and Latin America and with our client Zuma Energia.”

Zuma Energía chief executive Adrian Katzew said: “We are certain that our teams will work hard to reach our goal of beginning commercial operations by the start of 2019.”
