MidAmerican Energy has filed an application with US regulators to build an up to 2GW wind farm in Iowa.
The utility-developer — owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway — said the Wind XI wind farm will cost $3.6bn and will be built without state assistance or customer rate hikes.
The company, which has a goal of being 100% renewable in the coming years, said it was working to finalise turbine locations while the Iowa Utilities Board examines the proposal.
“Once the project is complete, we will generate wind energy equal to 85% of our annual customer sales in Iowa, bringing us within striking distance of our 100 percent renewable vision,” said MidAmerican chief executive Bill Fehrman.
