US utility KPC&L has secured two new power purchase agreements (PPA) for 500MW from two wind farms in its home state of Missouri.
The company said today that it has reached a deal to buy the power from Tradewind Energy’s 300MW Rock Creek wind farm in Atchison County which is expected to be commissioned by September 2017.
In addition, KPC&L has agreed a PPA with NextEra Energy for the 200MW Osborn wind farm in DeKalb County. It will come online by the end of the year.
KPC&L chief executive Terry Bassham said: “This announcement marks a significant investment in renewable energy, and will benefit our customers and the region.
“Over the past decade, we’ve transitioned our energy mix to become more sustainable and cleaner, and today is the most recent in a series of investments in renewable energy.”
