Vestas has reached a milestone with the first successful installation of its latest 7+MW wind turbine model.
The installation of the first commercial V172-7.2MW (pictured), part of the company’s EnVentus platform, took place in Germany.
The turbine was delivered to customer LSF Energy GmbH & Co. KG in Salzkotten.
Installation was completed on schedule and the turbine now stands at a hub height of 175 metres.
The V172-7.2MW has already achieved multiple certifications, including a Provisional Type Certificate.
It marks the latest evolution in the company’s EnVentus platform, which has now secured over 19GW in firm orders across 28 markets, with more than 10GW already installed.
This installation of the latest V172-7.2MW unit in Germany comes after Vestas achieved more than 1GW in firm orders for its 7+MW onshore turbines.
The V172-7.2MW is designed for low to medium wind conditions. According to Vestas, the turbine improves annual energy production by 12% in low wind conditions through enhancements in powertrain and power conversion systems.
