Nexans will supply 140km of high temperature overhead line conductors that will increase capacity at EnergoBit’s new Babadag III Wind Farm in Dobrogea, southeast Romania.
The existing Babadag-Tulcea Vest 110kV power line at the site does not have enough capacity to carry power to the farm but by using Nexans’ high temperature ACSS/TW BRANT conductors the line rating will double without adding mechanical loads.
The conductors have a capacity of 194MVA which allows it to carry 63% more current than the existing system allows when operating at the same temperature. The ACSS conductors also allow for a 16% reduction in joule losses when operating at the same current as the existing ACSR system.
The conductors will be used to transmit energy to the grid and by upgrading the conductor along the 44km OHL route the wind farm can operate with existing infrastructure, minimising cost and maximising efficiency.
EnergoBit chief executive Stefan Gadola said: “The reason why we chose to work with Nexans was because of its experience in delivering service components for the wind and renewables sector, alongside its track record of reliability, safety and quality.”
Nexans vice president of sales Cyprien Federspiel said: “With a 10 year long relationship between us, Nexans is excited to be working on another project with Energobit S.A, not only to service the needs of the Babadag III Wind Farm, but also to contribute to increased energy security within Romania.”
The conductors will be manufactured at Nexans’ Benelux plant in Elouge, Belgium.
