French developer Ardian’s 286MW Andberg wind farm in Sweden will be the first to feature a new 5MW-class Nordex turbine variant.
The German manufacturer is to supply 53 N149/5.X machines for the project located in Harjedalen province near Lillhardal in western Sweden.
Nordex had originally booked an order for 53 N149/4.0-4.5MW turbines for the project but Ardian has agreed to switch to larger units.
“Technologically the N149/5.X is based on the N149/4.0-4.5 turbine type from the Delta4000 series,” said Nordex CSO Patxi Landa.
“The N149/5.X can also be flexibly operated in different modes, depending on project requirements and now in the 5MW-plus power range too,” he added.
Ardian Infrastructure head of asset management Simo Santavirta said: “We are always looking to use the very best technological solutions for our assets and these turbines are a good example of this”.
Andberg, sold by Nordic developer OX2 to Ardian last year, is due to be operational by February 2021.
