Nordex reported earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation of €136.6m in the first half of 2016, up 55.4% on the €87.9m recorded in the same period last year.

The company said this was due to “further progress in quality management and more efficient project execution processes”.

The German manufacturer’s profit also saw a boost in the first six months of 2016, increasing 38.2% to €51m from €36.9m in January to June 2015.

Sales increased 34.9% to €1.48bn in the first half of 2016, with organic growth of 18.6%.

Acciona Windpower, which was acquired in the second quarter of 2016 and consolidated from 1 April, contributed 53.6% of Nordex’s order intake in the second quarter of the year.

The company said Acciona will “play an even more important role in the second half of the year”.

Overall, Nordex’s new business was worth €1.3bn in the first half of 2016.

Orders in Germany rose by 30% to €525m, with new business in North and South America at €288m. Further orders came from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the company said.

Installed capacity increased by 91% to 1.17GW, up from 611MW in the same period last year.

Rotor blade output climbed 98%, while turbine output was up 28%, Nordex said.

Going forward, the company expects sales to be between €3.35bn and €3.45bn in fiscal year 2016.

New orders are expected to be more than €2bn in the second half of the year, Nordex said.

Nordex chief executive officer Lars Bondo Krogsgaard said: “I am confident that we can continue to expand our new business and sales in the second half of the year.

“There are already signs that new markets and the US will make a considerably greater contribution.”
