Eon Climate & Renewables Canada proposes to install Nordex hardware at the 120MW Grizzly Bear Creek wind farm in eastern Alberta.
The wind farm will comprise 50 N117 2.4MW turbines with a 91m hub height and 116.8m rotor diameter, Eon told the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC).
In late 2014, Eon paused the AUC regulatory process to conduct a turbine review amid concerns whether the Nordex machines would be available in North America in time for construction.
Review of the original application resumed in late 2015 and the commission approved the project in May.
Development started in 2008 on Grizzly Bear Creek, Eon’s first project in Alberta.
The project covers 19,000 acres of private land in Minburn and Vermilion River counties, east of Edmonton.
The wind farm will interconnect via a 34.5/144kV project substation and a 16km 144kV transmission line to the Alberta electricity system.
Eon aims to start construction in spring 2017 and begin producing power by the end of that year.
