Nordex Group is partnering with Fabrica Argentina de Aviones in Argentina to set up a local assembly line for wind turbines.
The production facility in Cordoba will build nacelles and hubs for the AW3000 model.
It will start operating in 2019 and supply components for 48 AW132/3300 turbines ordered by AES Argentina Generacion.
Nordex said the Cordoba facility will have capacity to produce for 150 3MW turbines a year and employ about 100 people.
The German manufacturer said it is also planning two local production plants for concrete towers in the South American country that will create about 200 jobs.
Nordex chief executive Luis Blanco said: “To date we have been very successful in Argentina and over the past two years have received orders for more than 600MW. We are convinced that the market has enormous potential.
“Our local production plant here is a first step: in the coming years we plan to further localise the supply chain in order to meet national requirements. So this will mean even more jobs for the Argentinian industry.”
Fabrica Argentina de Aviones is a listed company run by the Argentine Ministry of Defense.
Minister of Defense of Argentina Oscar Aguad said: “We wanted to develop a strategic and sustainable FAdeA and in order to achieve this goal we had to generate new businesses in the aeronautical industry as well as in industries with similar technological characteristics, highly demanding and with potential for development, such as wind energy.”
