Nordex has received an order from Low Carbon to supply 30MW of turbines for the Mörknässkogen onshore wind farm in Finland.
The German manufacturer will provide five N163/5.X models for the site near Vaasa as part of the order which also includes a premium service contract for 30 years.
Commercial operations at the project are expected to commence in 2023 and it is set to become Low Carbon’s first operational wind farm in the country.
Due to the good average wind speeds on site the Delta4000 turbines on 159-meter hub height will deliver clean energy, capable of powering over 30,600 Finnish homes and avoiding more than 24,700 tons of CO2 emissions, Nordex said.
The Mörknässkogen wind farm aligns closely with Finland’s National Energy and Climate strategy for 2030, which aims to increase the use of renewable energy to 50% of energy end-consumption, the company added.
Nordex Group CSO Patxi Landa: “We are delighted to do our first deal with Low Carbon and to continue our strong performance in the Finnish market.
“In these volatile times it is a pleasure to see our customers’ commitment to invest in our energy security and de-carbonising our energy systems.”
Low Carbon Renewables Fund CIO John Graves said: “Finland is a highly sought-after European renewables market, and we are proud to play a part in diversifying the country’s renewable power mix with affordable and clean wind energy.
“The project will also count towards Low Carbon’s ambitious target of building 20 GW of new renewable energy capacity by 2030.
“As Finland is already a world leader in the utilisation of renewable sources of energy, the project will become an important asset in Low Carbon’s expanding European portfolio.”
