North Dakota regulators have approved a 100.4MW community-initiated wind project in Rolette County.
The Public Service Commission voted unanimously to grant a certificate of site compatibility authorizing construction of up to 59 turbines.
Proponent Rolette Power Development is jointly owned by M-Power, LLC and Border Power, LLC, both of which are owned by participating landowners, local investors and community development organizations.
The Rolette project, located on a 14,000-acre site in north-central North Dakota, must comply with a 1400-foot setback from residences and a maximum 30 hours per year of shadow flicker.
Turbine models under consideration include the GE 1.7MW-100, Vestas V110 2MW and V117 3.3MW, Siemens SWT 2.3MW-113 and Gamesa G114 2MW and 2.5MW units.
Rolette anticipates starting construction in spring 2016 and becoming operational before the year-end.
