Northland Power and Giiwedin Noodin FN Energy Corp have brought online the 100MW Grand Bend wind farm near Lake Huron in Ontario.
The project is a 50/50 partnership between Northland and Giiwedin, which was created to hold the equity interest of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation and Bkejwanong Territory (Walpole Island First Nation) in the project.
It consists of 40 Siemens units and was awarded a 20-year contract under Ontario’s feed-in-tariff program for renewable energy by the Independent Electricity System Operator.
A joint venture of Amec Foster Wheeler and Black & McDonald carried project management, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of balance of plant on the project.
Giiwedin president Graham Hoogterp said: “It has been a journey of collaboration for Giiwedin Noodin and our partner Northland Power to achieve COD on the Grand Bend Wind Farm.”
Northland chief executive officer John Brace said. “We are pleased to add the project to our fleet of operating assets while reducing Ontario’s carbon footprint, and are thankful to all involved in bringing this project to completion on budget and within the expected project schedule.”
