Octopus invests €584m in European wind

Octopus Energy Generation has invested €584m to acquire 321MW of onshore wind farms across 17 sites in France, Germany and Poland.

The company said the investment was made by its fund management team on behalf of the Sky fund (ORI SCSp) to accelerate clean power across key European markets.

Octopus added that the wind farms will generate enough electricity to power more than 250,000 homes.

The portfolio includes 143.5MW across 10 sites in France, spanning Hauts-de-France, Grand Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Brittany, Centre-Val de Loire and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Octopus said these French projects are a mix of operational and construction-stage assets expected to supply around 65,000 homes annually once fully built.

In Germany, Octopus has acquired four wind farms totalling 102.5MW across Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg.

The company noted that two of the German sites are operational while the remaining two are under construction, together powering around 71,000 homes.

Octopus also acquired three operational wind farms in northern Poland with a combined capacity of 75MW.

The company said these Polish assets generate enough electricity to supply around 120,000 homes each year and include access to a development pipeline.

Zoisa North-Bond, chief executive at Octopus Energy Generation, said: “Europe has one of the greatest wind resources in the world. With major ambitions to build more wind farms, we’re still only scratching the surface of what’s possible. We now need to move even faster if we’re going to unlock untapped wind power potential and meet Europe’s clean energy needs.

“From France to Germany and Poland, these latest projects are part of a wider shift away from polluting fossil fuels and towards homegrown, affordable, clean power.”
