More than 1300MW of onshore wind capacity has secured Contracts for Difference agreements in the UK’s Allocation Round 7a (AR7a) auction.
A total of 27 projects were successful in winning 20-year support deals in the round at a clearing price of £72.24 per megawatt-hour (in 2024 prices).
The bid ceiling set prior to the tender was £92/MWh.
Onshore wind competed against solar technologies in the Pot 1 auction stream, which was set an overall £295m budget, of which £160m was ringfenced for wind farms.
Almost 1.1GW of the successful onshore wind capacity was allocated in Scotland, with 185MW awarded in Wales across five projects, and 28MW in England for two sites.
Projects have been set delivery windows of 2027-28 and 2028-29.
CWP Energy was one of the largest winners, landing two separate deals totalling 269.4MW for the in-construction 308MW Sanquhar 2 wind farm in Scotland.
ESB-Coriolis secured a 124.8MW contract for the consented Glendye wind farm, while OnPath Energy won a 70MW deal for the Lethans Extension wind farm, both in Scotland.
Elsewhere in Scotland, RWE landed a hat-trick of CfD agreements for its Clachaig Glen, Enoch Hill 2, and Golticlay schemes.
Five onshore wind farms in Wales were successful in the tender, including Bute Energy with a 93.8MW CfD for the Twyn Hywel wind farm.
Two English projects cleared the round – the 20MW Imerys and 8.2MW Hyndburn 2 wind farms.
