Orkney Islands Council has submitted a planning application for its 29MW six-turbine wind farm development at Wee Fea on the island of Hoy.
The development will feature six up-to-149.9-metre turbines and is part of Orkney’s Community Wind Farm Project, which also includes proposed council-owned wind farm developments at Quanterness and on Faray, also part of Scotland’s Northern Isles.
As with the Quanterness application, the council will request Scottish Ministers to call in the Hoy application too on the grounds of national importance.
The council said that all three developments are substantial, and the turbines are all of a height not used in Orkney before to blade tip.
A planning application for the Quanterness project was submitted in January and subsequently called in by Scottish Ministers in March.
A planning application for the Faray project is likely to be submitted at the start of next year, with pre-application consultation due to take place from next month.
