ESB and Bord na Mona have started construction on the 83MW second phase of the Oweninny wind farm in Ireland.
The €100m new project, at Bellacorrick in County Mayo, will bring the combined output at Oweninny to 172MW when complete.
Phase two was successful in Ireland’s recent Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS-1) capacity auction with initial works on the site commencing in February 2021.
Roadbridge has so far constructed more than 10km of internal access road and excavation works for turbine foundations while crane hardstandings are ongoing.
H&MV have started the electrical works, while Nordex is the preferred supplier for the 31 turbines.
More than 100 jobs will be sustained during the construction phase, with a majority of the workforce from the Connacht region.
The phase two wind farm will connect into the existing onsite substation which was developed during the construction of the first phase.
The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2022
