IKEA is acquiring from OX2 the 42.4MW Ajos wind farm in Kemi in northern Finland.
The wind farm currently consists of 10 turbines, but under the terms of the deal will be upgraded and expanded to 13 units.
It will consist of eight Siemens SWT 130 3.3MW units on artificial islands offshore, and five Siemens SWT 113 3.2MW onshore.
OX2 will now start construction of the project, with handover to IKEA planned for 2017.
OX2 will continue to be responsible for the commercial and technical management of the wind farm.
Ajos is IKEA’s first wind power investment in the Finnish market, and the companies’ fourth joint project.
IKEA Finland country manager Lars Midttun said: “The new wind farm will mean we produce more renewable energy than all the energy we use in our buildings in Finland.”
OX2 Wind managing director Paul Stormoen said: “This project is part of OX2’s expansion strategy to position itself on the global market.
“We have collaborated successfully with IKEA for many years, and we are now looking forward to constructing and delivering their first wind farm in Finland.”
