A worker has died in an incident during construction of the 756MW Golden Plains wind farm stage 1 in Rokewood, Victoria, Australia.
The incident happened on Monday 133km west of Melbourne and 69km north-west of Geelong.
A Vestas spokesperson said: “Vestas can confirm a subcontractor passed away on 11 November following an incident at TagEnergy’s Golden Plains wind farm – stage 1.
“Vestas share their deepest condolences with the individual’s family, and we will do everything we can to support them during this difficult time.
“Safety is Vestas’ number one priority, and Vestas and the project partners are working closely with local authorities, including the Victorian Police and WorkSafe Victoria, to investigate the incident and determine the underlying cause.
“The site has been paused due to the incident, and as with any incident and out of respect to the deceased we ask everyone to avoid speculation and await the findings from the investigation.”
Victoria Police said it will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of the man.
“The man was working at a wind farm on Bells Road when he was crushed beneath a fan blade shortly after 8am,” said a police spokesperson.
“First responders attempted to revive the man, but he was declared deceased at the scene.
“WorkSafe will investigate the incident.”
WorkSafe Victoria is the trading name of the Victorian WorkCover Authority, a statutory body of the state government. It is responsible for workplace safety inspections across the state and prosecuting breaches of workplace health, safety, and workers’ compensation laws.
