Onshore wind projects totalling about 2200MW were successful in Poland’s latest energy auction held earlier this month.
The country’s Energy Regulatory Office said 164 bids were received in the joint onshore wind and solar sale for projects over 1MW.
In total, 101 projects were successful receiving support of PLN16.2bn (€3.8bn), of which PLN16.1bn went to onshore wind, corresponding to 2.2GW, the office said.
PLN129m in support went to solar projects.
Bids ranged from PLN163 a megawatt-hour to PLN233/MWh, with the average price PLN208/MWh.
The average price is lower than the current wholesale price of PLN220/MWh, according to the Polish Wind Energy Association (PWEA).
PWEA president Janusz Gajowiecki said: “Such a low price level in this year’s auction indicates the cost advantage of onshore wind energy over other electricity generation technologies.
“For another consecutive year, the average price of submitted offers was lower than the wholesale energy price.
“This shows that the next megawatts of installed onshore farms are an effective tool for reducing the costs of the energy transformation to a low-emission direction.”
