The Quebec government has approved the 147.2MW Mont Sainte Marguerite wind farm, clearing the way for construction to begin on 1 December.
Pattern Energy and RES Canada have partnered with the municipalities of St Sylvester, St Severin and Le Sacré-Coeur-de-Jesus in the project, located about 50 miles south of Quebec City.
The provincial decree authorizes installation of 46 Siemens SWT-3.2MW-113 direct drive turbines.
General contractor Borea Construction has selected subcontractors RRC for foundation design and Tetratech for the collector system and connection station.
Total project cost is estimated at C$300m, of which C$180m is to be spent in Quebec.
More than 150 landowners spanning 8000 hectares are participating in the wind farm.
In addition to landowner payments, municipalities will receive C$5000 per year per MW installed on their territory plus C$20,000 a year in community payments.
The project was purchased from initial proponent RES. It holds a 25-year power purchase agreement with provincial utility Hydro-Québec.
Turbine erection is scheduled to begin next summer and Pattern expects to start commercial operation in December 2017.
