RenewableUK has slammed GMB union leaders for criticising wind power’s contribution to the UK energy mix.
The trade body’s deputy chief executive Maf Smith (pictured) said: “Scottish GMB officials are pushing for offshore wind contracts to come to Scotland while the leadership in London is disparaging the very industry its members are relying on for work.
“It shows just how out of the touch the union bosses are – they need to talk to their grassroots members more.”
He added: “The simple fact is that wind is a vital part of our modern energy mix, providing clean energy for British homes, offices and factories.
“This year we generated an average of 10% of the nation’s electricity a month from wind. Last year, the UK got 20% of its electricity from renewables. These are achievements to celebrate, not talk down.”
