Pteragen Canada has asked for more time to build the 120MW Peace Butte wind project in Alberta.
The developer, a subsidiary of Spain’s Renovalia Energy, told regulators that ongoing regulatory uncertainty around the province’s renewable energy and fossil fuel policies make it difficult to finalize commercial arrangements for the project.
Pteragen has asked the Alberta Utilities Commission to extend the construction completion date by two years to 31 December 2018.
The Alberta Electricity System Operator has already approved the new deadline.
The developer plans to participate in a provincial call for renewable energy credits that is expected to launch by the end of the year, according to regulatory filings.
The commission expects to make a decision within 40 to 60 days.
The project was approved in 2013 and has already received a two-and-a-half-year extension from the original June 2014 in-service date.
The proponent is authorized to install 60 Gamesa G90 2MW wind turbines on a 8800-acre site about 20km south of Medicine Hat.
